You were so nice to them Brandon- honest, but nice. Would that they were the same with those with whom they disagree. Their “sermons” in this tome are not indicative of their presence on SM , using almost every slanderous device and name-calling imaginable. The Projection of their part is real.

But as I first submitted... you were fair to them, and clearly understood their source of conflict (The Manual of the COTN), more than they seemed to convey. Well done!

Family physician here. There is a condition known as “testicular feminization,” that occurs rarely, with widely divergent incidence in the literature. It is also known as androgen insensitivity. Nevertheless, these individuals are “XY,” and are phenotypically (the appearance, not the genes) female. The fact that they exist completely disproves the rather stupid genetic discussion that you cite from the book. The only reason that a ridiculous resolution was rescinded at the last GA (2017) was because of the impassioned plea from a friend of mine, Dr. Dan Spaite, who pointed out that the resolution was scientifically false, and it would make us a laughingstock as a denomination. The resolution was to state that there are only two sexes (I think they used the word “gender”), and that they must conform with the sex listed on a person’s birth certificate. The fact that many parts of the world do not have birth certificates also makes the resolution just silly. So, for the first time in our church’s history, a resolution that had been passed by a majority was rescinded and sent to a committee for study. It will be interesting to see what that committee comes up with.

Ok, I finally made it through the book and I made it through your blog.

I prefer your title of their book. Did you come across anything in the book that was harder to address or made you think differently?

I agree that this book is definitely not a response to Oord‘s book, because only one contributor quoted from Steve McCormick’s essay. I think they were pretending to be a response, but all that to say that you are correct, this is an alternative to and not in response of why the Nazarene church should be fully LGBTQ+ affirming. I am a bit peeved at the Friedmans for pretending to be responding to Oord‘s book.
